RI Community Food Bank to Benefit From Attendance At Providence Boat Show

12/30/2008

December, 2008, Providence, RI…Newport Exhibition Group, producers of the Providence Boat Show, which runs this year from January 29th to February 1st 2009, has announced its plan to donate partial proceeds of the ticket sales on Sunday, February 1st to the RI Community Food Bank.  Show Director, Nancy Piffard noted, We have a real concern for Rhode Islanders who are in need at this time.  It is a long winter and we hope we can help by donating to the Food Bank.  A portion of the tickets bought on Sunday to enter the show will be donated.  It is the least we can do.

The Show will present exhibits of powerboats that appeal to the family cruising and fishing audiences as well as small sailing craft, personal watercraft and inflatables.  In addition, therell be hundreds of exhibits that feature gear, technology, engines and electronics.  The emphasis is expected to be on affordable craft and equipment and services that will allow boaters to enjoy their passion at lower costs.  Seminars will be included to help people have more fun fishing and cruising with greater efficiency.  Therell be convenient and easy ways to register boats for the coming year.  And, the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association will be offering career guidance for students and underemployed workers who might want to work in the marine trades, one of the mainstays of the Rhode Island economy.

Show Director, Nancy Piffard noted, The strength of the Providence Show is in power boats, especially those that appeal to families and fishermen.  We also have a big section devoted to small sailing craft such as Lasers and Sunfish since larger sailboats have opted to limit their exposure at indoor shows.  With so much of the main floor of the Show devoted to Small Cruisers and Fishing boats from 8 to 40, fishing and other related exhibits showing accessories, gear and charter services will be located throughout the Show site.   Adding in kayaks and inflatables plus booths filled with equipment, electronics and the all-important service people such as financing, insurance, storage, refit, repairs and maintenance, the Show will be filling nearly 140,000 sq. feet of space with more than 200 exhibitors.

The Rhode Island DEM will be offering boat registration and renewal to save boaters time.   The Bassmaster CastingKids program, a flip, pitch and cast teaching activity for kids from 7 and up, will be on-site each day of the show sponsored by the Rhode Island B.A.S.S Federation Nation.  And, on Sunday, partial proceeds from admissions will be donated to the RI Community Food Bank to help all people from throughout the area.

Ms. Piffard noted: The Providence Boat Show is, arguably, the most convenient show for people from eastern Connecticut, central and southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and, of course, Rhode Island to get to…with easy access and indoor parking just off Rte 95 in downtown Providence.  And, this year, the admission price has been dropped to $10.00 and $8.00 for tickets bought in advance, with half price for all military personnel and children under 12 free.  All in all, its a lot better experience for the average boater than any other similar event in New England!

Special features at the show will include demonstrations about practical do-it-yourself topics for boaters at the Marine Trades pavilion by students studying for careers in the boat business.  Seminars for fishermen will be offered by Mark Burgess, Charlie Soares and Captain Bill Brown and Boat Wise Marine Training School will be talking about the green and economic topic of Ethanols Effect on Marine Motors.

Another exciting event at the show will be a Boatload of Cash giveaway that will offer two people the right to participate in a Super Saturday Football Toss with the chance to win $50,000!   Participants will be randomly selected from advance ticket buyers and show attendees on Thursday and Friday, as well as people who enter by mail.

The Providence Boat Show runs Thursday & Friday, January 29 and 30 from Noon to 9 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM and Sunday, February 1 from 10 AM to 5 PM.  Adult tickets at the door are $10.00 and children 12 and under are FREE with an adult.  Advance discount tickets are available on-line for only $8.00 so attendees save money as well as time by avoiding ticket lines!  Military personnel will receive half price tickets with a valid ID all four days of the Show.  For more information, call 401-846-1115 or go to www.providenceboatshow.com.
