Providence, RI, January 2009…Newport Exhibition Group, producers of the Providence Boat Show which runs this year from January 29th to February 1st 2009, has announced its plan to host Youth Day on Friday January 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association in Partnership with MY TURN of Rhode Island and the Industry Skills Development Initiative will be running the program. Over 130 students in Middle School and High School along with group leaders from Pawtucket, Warwick, Providence, and the Bristol-Warren school districts will participate. Each group will start with an informational session led by Jack Radcliffe of OSA Kayaking, followed by an interactive scavenger hunt throughout the boat show to increase their awareness of careers in the industry. Students will receive giveaways and prizes for their participation.
Nancy Piffard, Show Director stated, We are really pleased to have this opportunity to show the youth of Rhode Island how important the Marine Industry is to this state. And, if they are considering a career that will keep them in the state, the Marine Industry is one of the best choices they can make. This industry is here to stay and growing. The Providence Boat Show will give them a chance to talk with people who are already in the business. Plus, with the Boats Work for RI Pavilion an initiative of the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association they will see demonstrations of just what some of the work in the industry entails. All in all its a perfect match.
